The owners bought the cottage which included the redundant chapel. We were commissioned to integrate them into a single dwelling while retaining their individual character. We achieved this with a neutral 'box' as a new entrance and link.
Sustainable materials such as natural sheep's wool insulation complimented by a breathable wall panel finish, allow any moisture in the walls and roofs to easily dissapate for a healthier internal environment.
The Chapel has been transformed into a relaxed open plan living space with a new toilet featuring carefully selected tiles and fittings.
Both roofs were re slated with natural slates, with neatly detailed lead flashings to weather proof the stone skews of the kirk.
The Chapel has also been fitted with a new solar panel array that neatly fits within the build-up of the replaced natural slate roof, lessening wind noise.
A beautifully executed new doorway through the stone links the new contemporary porch to the kirk.
The cottage is now being renovated as the final phase. It will have the bedrooms, a home offiice, toilet and storage.
